Karratha Community Fun Walk - 2012

After the success of the inaugural event held last year with almost 200 participants, the KCA have hit the ground running in 2012 with preparations for this year’s walk well underway.

The Walk will be held on Saturday 26 May 2012 and follows the Jaburara Heritage Trail across the top of the Karratha hills from the Visitors Centre and finishing at the Pilbara TAFE.

The aim of the walk is to provide an annual community event that promotes a sense of place and encourages wide community participation by showcasing Karratha’s natural and cultural history. KCA President Stuart Otto said “The Jaburara Trail gives a fantastic view of Karratha and the surrounding area from the ocean and Burrup Peninsula to the sweeping views of Tabletop Hill around to the Maitland River”.

Individuals, families, Schools, Community and Sporting groups will be able to participate in the walk with buses provided to take walkers to the start at the Visitor's Centre. Participating groups are encouraged to seek sponsorship for the 3.5 km walk and fundraise for their respective groups. Please see the below for the forms for sponsorship and entry.

The Karratha Community Association would like to thank all the sponsors for their generous support.

If you would like to be part of this event or would like to know more about the Karratha Community Association, please contact the KCA President Stuart Otto on 0417 938 519.

Current Status

WHAT - Over the past few months, a group of Karratha residents have been busy putting together a constitution for the proposed incorporation of a new community association for Karratha - the Karratha Community Association Inc. The purpose of the association is to represent and promote the civic and social advancement of the township of Karratha that sustains a quality of life and community pride for all residents.

WHY - The Association's purpose and objectives are based on feedback and surveys completed by various community members over recent months, and primarily driven by the fact that Karratha does not currently have a legitimate 'united voice' on issues that concern residents living in Karratha.

The 'steering group' has received written confirmation from the Department of Commerce WA that the name requested "Karratha Community Association Inc.is not presently used by any other body corporate or any registered business. Therefore it is presently available for use.

An advertisement will be featured in the public notices section of the Pilbara News, this Wednesday 26th August, advertising our intention to incorporate.

A constitution has been drafted and following community feedback, will be forwarded to the Dept Commerce with our formal application for Incorporation. Click here to view the draft constitution.

1. Seek feedback from the community on the draft constitution via email to kcacontact@gmail.com - Comments due by Monday 21st September 2009

3. Forward final constitution with application for incorporation with the Department of Commerce WA.

4. A Karratha Community meeting is proposed for Monday 2nd November 2009, 7pm at Welcome Lotteries House to provide potential members with more information about the proposed association and to seek nominations for the inaugural Annual General Meeting.
